Joanne Mitchell is the Director of Georgia State University’s Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization. Joanne joined OTTC in August 2023, bringing more than 20 years of experience in technology transfer and commercialization.
Joanne began her technology transfer career in 2002 as a Licensing Analyst at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She quickly rose to Licensing Associate, and then Interim Director. In 2007, Joanne was recruited to City of Hope National Medical Center as Associate Director, Intellectual Property, and then in 2009 was recruited to become the first Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at the Houston Methodist System. In 2015, Joanne left Houston Methodist to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities including as a Technology Transfer Consultant at Fuentek, LLC. She was a Lead Mentor for CED and a mentor for the NC State Entrepreneurial program in Raleigh, NC.
Joanne has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Liverpool and a B.Sc. from the University of Durham. She also has postdoctoral research experience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
